Here is your Free English Lesson "Which form of the verb do I use after look forward to?" 1) Tick the correct sentence in each pair. 1 a I'm looking forward to telling you the whole story.
b I'm looking forward to tell you the whole story.
2 a I don't enjoy walking in the dark.
b I don't enjoy walk in the dark.
We use to + verb after some verbs (see Unit 19):
I want to change my bed because it is old.
However, we use look forward to + verb + -ing:
I look forward to hearing from you. (not I look forward to hear from you
)
We're looking forward to seeing you soon.
This is because to in look forward to is a preposition:
Are you looking forward to the end of term?
We use -ing after both the preposition to and other prepositions such as in, on, for:
I prefer speaking to writing English.
Are you interested in going on the tour?
We also use verb + -ing after verbs such as avoid, enjoy, finish, practice, stop:
